Variety is reporting that Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer is in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Cold War movie for Fox Searchlight.
Del Toro will write, produce and direct the film, which is an otherworldly love story set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963.
Spencer is set to reprise her role in “The Divergent Series: Allegiant,” which hits theaters on March 18 and is also set to play God in “The Shack,” which comes out later this year. She recently filmed Marc Webb’s “Gifted” opposite Chris Evans, and will play mathematician Dorothy Vaughn in Fox 2000’s “Hidden Figures,” opposite Taraji P. Henson.
Del Toro most recently directed the gothic thriller “Crimson Peak,” toplined by Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.
Shooting on the untitled Del Toro project will start this summer.
