Deadline is reporting that Teyonah Parris is in talks to star in ‘Buffalo Soldier Girl,’ and reunite with its director Christine Swanson.
Swanson recently directed the actress in the upcoming biopic Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story, which will air on TV One.
‘Buffalo Soldier Girl’ centers on a woman who, disguised as a man, enlisted and fought with the African American Post Civil War era as a ‘Buffalo Soldier.
Pantheon of Women will produce the film from a screenplay by Sarah Bird. Principal photography is expected to start this fall in Texas. Deadline states that Pantheon’s motto is “Entertain, Engage, and Empower.” Its goal is enable women to show their strengths and tell their stories in front of and behind the camera.
Best known for her role as Missy Vaughn on Starz’s Survivor’s Remorse, Parris had a breakout role in Justin Simien’s Dear White People before landing the lead role in Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq, which was released in 2015. Her previous TV and film projects include playing Dawn Chambers in AMC’s Mad Men and a starring role in Leila Djansi‘s indie film Where Children Play opposite Macy Gray and Brian White. Beside The Miki Howard Story, Parris will next be seen opposite David Oyelowo in Five Nights In Maine.
Christine directed 2001’s romantic drama All About You, which starred Tony Award nominated actress Renée Elise Goldsberry and LisaRaye. Her other credits include TV One’s For the Love of Ruth, To Hell and Back and the upcoming Miki Howard Story.
