FilmRise has picked SXSW Film Festival winner ‘From Nowhere’ for a 2017 theatrical release, states Variety.

Directed by Matthew Newton from a script co-written by Newton and Kate Ballen, the film stars J. Mallory McCree (“Quantico”), Octavia Chavez-Richmond and Raquel Castro (“Empire”) along with Julianne Nicholson, Denis O’Hare, and Tashiana Washington.

‘From Nowhere’ won the Narrative Spotlight audience award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.

Three undocumented teenagers, a Dominican girl, an African boy and a Peruvian girl, are about to graduate high school in the Bronx, while working with a teacher and a lawyer to try to get their papers to stay in the USA. Forced to grow up prematurely and navigate problems most adults don’t even have to face, they’re really just American teenagers who want to be with their friends, fall in love, and push back against authority.

Julianne Nicholson plays the teacher and Denis O’Hare portrays the attorney.

The deal was negotiated by Fisher and FilmRise’s Max Einhorn with Ryan Kampe of Visit Films. Newton is represented by Varun Monga at Equitable Stewardship for Artist.
