Let’s take a look back at the original Broadway show and meet these fabulous ladies of soul!

The Dynamites
While some musicals are meant to entertain, many outshine the others through its diverse cast and particular themes. This popular Broadway musical is based on the 1988 John Waters film “Hairspray” and officially made its debut on Broadway August 15, 2002. With just one year on the stage, the musical won eight Tony Awards out of thirteen nominations, including best musical. Before closing January 2009, there were a total of 2,500 performances and all included the amazing trio “The Dynamites”. Their hits “The New Girl In Town” and “Welcome To The 60’s” will be performed by the original trio and were also heard in the 2007 film.

Let’s meet the fabulous trio: Shayna Steele, Kamilah Marshall, and Judine Somerville.
