Currently making its festival rounds is the document ‘The F Word,’ created and produced by PaSean Wilson-Ashley. The F Word explores the fibroid epidemic, its debilitating impact on the lives of women and their partners, and where we stand in discovering their cause, treatment and a cure.
Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths with no known cause. A majority of women will develop fibroids at some point in their lives, and for some these growths cause years of suffering marked by debilitating menstrual cycles, miscarriages, pain, life-threatening anemia, ruined sex lives and other health problems.
We ask the question women would ask with no knowledge of Fibroids. The women interviewed share their intimate Fibroid Stories. Stories of; their initial diagnosis of Fibroids, unique dealing with doctors, the common yet often debilitating symptoms associated with Fibroids and treatment choice. Doctors share both their clinical knowledge and candid views on practices in relation to fibroid treatment. The Documentary takes us into the Operating Room to view a myomectomy being performed. This documentary connects the dots of the commonalities in habits and life style among women with fibroids that transcends race and socio-economic background.
The doc has appearances by author Deborah Gregory, poet Sonia Sanchez, supermodel Beverly Johnson, jazz singer Ronda Ross, Tony award-winner LaChanze and TV’s Game of Silence star Deidrie Henry.
