Actress Amanda Warren has been added to the cast of writer-director Dan Gilroy’s legal thriller, joining Denzel Washington, Colin Farrell, Joseph David-Jones, and Nazneen Contractor.
Currently shooting in Los Angeles, Sony will distribute the film, which is being co-financed by Cross Creek, Lone Star Capital and Charles King’s Macro. Jennifer Fox is producing with Todd Black of Escape Artists and Brian Oliver of Cross Creek.
Formerly titled ‘Inner City,’ the story centers on an awkward, reclusive lawyer named Roman J. Israel (Washington), who has worked as a legal researcher in Los Angeles for decades. When his partner has a heart attack, Israel suddenly takes on the role of the firm’s frontman. He soon uncovers details about the crusading law firm’s history that run afoul of his values of helping the poor and dispossessed, and finds himself in an existential crisis that leads to extreme action.
Farrell will play the slick, money-focused lawyer who recruits the researcher to his firm, while Jones would play an impressionable young lawyer fresh out of grad school who helps Washington with cases. Contractor will play an assistant district attorney opposite Washington.
Best known for playing Mayor Lucy Warburton during Season 1 of HBO’s The Leftovers, Warren was last seen playing an SEC investigator opposite Robert De Niro in the HBO film The Wizard of Lies, a film about financier Bernie Madoff. Earlier this year, she guest-starred in NBC’s Golden Globe nominated dramedy This Is Us.
She will next be seen in Martin McDonagh’s upcoming film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Warren was also featured in McDonagh’s 2012 Seven Psychopaths.
