ThePlaylist has posted the trailer to “Living on Soul,” a music documentary about Daptone Records, featuring Sharon Jones, The Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley, Antibalas, The Budos Band, Menahan Street Band and more.
Based out of a two-story building nicknamed “The House of Soul” in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the musician-owned label has been putting out funk and hard-hitting soul one record at a time for 15 years. In December 2015 they brought their roster of artists together to the legendary Apollo Theater for the three night, sold out Daptone Super Soul Revue.
Drawing on the historic residency, award-winning documentary filmmaker Jeff Broadway (Cure For Pain: The Mark Sandman Story, Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton) and producing partner Cory Bailey are set to deliver the definitive Daptone Records film, Living On Soul.
Captured in 4K across three nights on six cameras, the film centers on electrifying performances by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley, Antibalas, The Budos Band, Menahan Street Band & more. The performances burst across the screen in “Living On Soul”, giving audiences enviable access to Daptone Records now legendary run at the Apollo.
“Living On Soul” hits VOD and digital outlets on December 5th.
