Universal 1440 Entertainment, the original content production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has released the trailer to Honey: Rise Up and Dance, which will be released on DVD and digital download on April 3, 2018.
Directed by Bille Woodruff, this is the fourth film in the Honey franchise.
The film stars Teyana Taylor, Empire’s Bryshere Y. Gray, and Sierra McClain.
Woodruff has directed all of the Honey installments, but only the 2003 film Honey, which starred Jessica Alba, hit theaters.
Set in Atlanta, aspiring street dancer Skyler (Taylor) is at a major crossroads in her life. She’s decided to try-out for the same dance crew as her formally trained sister Tosha (McClain) in order to compete for a college scholarship, but is discouraged by her family and boyfriend who doubt that her raw, edgy talent is enough for her to win. Determined to prove them all wrong, Skyler practices nonstop in Atlanta’s underground dance scene and catches the eye of Tyrell (Gray). He helps her take her dance and hip-hop battle skills to the next level in order to achieve her dreams.
Honey: Rise Up and Dance will also be available as an original soundtrack packed with songs by notable artists including Chris Brown, Future, Migos, and more. The soundtrack will be available to own digitally on March 30, 2018.
The script is written by Robert Adetuyi (“Stomp The Yard,” “You Got Served: Beat The World”) with choreography by Jamaica Craft (“Empire,” “The Boss”) and is produced by Mike Elliott (“November Rule,” “The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power”). Executive producer is Marc Platt (“Honey franchise,” “La La Land”).
