Variety is reporting that IFC Films has acquired the US distribution rights to director Joe Chappelle’s political thriller drama An Acceptable Loss, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Tika Sumpter. The film is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2018 Chicago Film Festival.
Also included in the cast are Alysia Reiner, Jeff Hephner, Deana Dunagan, Clarke Peters, David Eigenberg, Jeff Hephner, Rex Linn, and Alex Weismann.
When former U.S. security adviser Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Lamm (Tika Sumpter) leaves public service to take a position as a university lecturer, the sins from her past come back to haunt her. U.S. President Rachel Burke (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her Chief of Staff Adrian (Jeff Hephner) pressure Lamm to remain loyal to their administration, even as mysterious student Martin (Ben Tavassoli) begins stalking her. This quartet converges as Libby seeks redemption, Rachel and Adrian seek compliance and Martin seeks the truth. This political thriller from Chicago writer-director Chappelle (The Wire) is an entertaining mix of Scandal and All the President’s Men.
Dunagan portrays a shrewd, no-nonsense professor who invites controversy onto her prestigious college campus by welcoming a guest speaker with a checkered and widely scrutinized past. Reiner plays an honest, pragmatic cabinet member, Peters is the editor of a local newspaper with a diminishing audience.
IFC Films is planning to release An Acceptable Loss in January.
