Blackfilm.com has learned that Alicia Witt has been added to the cast of Tyler Perry’s A Madea’s Christmas, joining Tika Sumpter, Chad Michael Murray, Eric Lively, Larry the Cable Guy, Lisa Whelchel and Kathy Najimy.
The Massachusetts native recently tweeted the following, “in rainy Atlanta having a blast working w force to be reckoned with @tylerperry on A Madea Christmas alongside @iamtikasumpter @chadmmurray! “
Madea gets coaxed into helping a friend pay her daughter a surprise visit in the country for Christmas, but the biggest surprise is what they’ll find when they arrive. As the small, rural town prepares for its annual Christmas Carnival, new secrets are revealed and old relationships are tested while Madea dishes her own brand of Christmas Spirit to all.
Perry is directing, adapting his own play and producing with Ozzie Areu and Matt Moore. Lionsgate is releasing the film on Dec.13. Shooting is currently underway in Atlanta.
Lively will play the husband of the daughter while Murray will play the town bully, a redneck type who tries to control his wife and son. Sumpter is one of his son’s teachers, someone Murray dislikes, while Larry is the quirky patriarch of the white side of an interracial marriage.
A veteran of numerous TV series such as Cybil, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Friday Night Lights, and a tremendous amount of TV guest spots, Witt’s film credits include Mr Hollands’ Opus, Two Weeks Notice, The Upside of Anger, Last Holiday and 88 Minutes.
