Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender, the film is based on an autobiography written in 1853 by Solomon Northup, a free black man who became enslaved. The script tells how Northup (Ejiofor) was kidnapped and put in a slave pen, paving the way for a grueling life under numerous owners.
Quvenzhane Wallis and 5-year old Cameron Zeigler are the Northup children.
The Twelve Years cast also includes Alfre Woodard, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lupita Nyong’o, Ruth Negga, Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano, Michael K. Williams, Taran Killam, Adepero Odyue, Sarah Paulson, and Wallis’ ‘Beast Of The Southern Wild’ co-star Dwight Henry.
McQueen co-wrote the script with John Ridley (“Red Tails”). Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce for Pitt’s company, Plan B.
