Beyonce’s Pregnancy May Halt ‘A Star Is Born’ Productionby Wilson Morales
August 29, 2011
With singer/actress Beyonce announcing her pregnancy last night at MTV’s VMA Awards, it’s pretty clear that her next film, the musical remake of ‘A Star is Born,’ will be put on hold.
With Clint Eastwood set to direct and co-produce, Warner Bros. was looking to start production around February 2012. With no actor attached at this point, that should give the studio plenty of time to look for someone to fill the slot, if and when Beyonce is ready to act again.
So many names had been rumored for the coveted role, ranging from Will Smith, Russell Crowe, to more recently Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale.
Shopped around studios for years, the project has been in development hell with several producers and actors attached at one point or another, including a Will Smith/ Jennifer Lopez pairing.
If you have seen the previous versions that came out in 1937, 1954 and 1976, you know that it’s about an aging, alcoholic musician who mentors/is schooled by — and then finds romance with — a younger female star.
Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, who directed the third version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, on still on board as the other producers.
