Bille Woodruff has been selected to direct ‘Drumline 2: A New Beat‘ for VH1, states Deadline.

Written by Karen Gist, the story centers on strong willed and talented Dani Bolton, who defies her parents, and instead of going to Spelman College, heads off to SEU so she can join the excellent Rolling Red Thunder Drumline.

Charles Stone III directed the original film in 2002, which starred Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana. According to its Wikipedia page, the film opened to highly positive reviews with most critics liking the energy and playing of the musical bands in the film. It was a success at the box office, earning over $56 million in the U.S., and almost $1.2 million in foreign markets. Cannon will exec produce the sequel.
