Currently in theaters is the sequel ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,’ which stars Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Douglas Smith, Mary Birdsong, Yvette Nicole Brown, Missi Pyle, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Head, Paloma Kwiatkowski, Leven Rambin, and Stanley Tucci.

Percy Jackson (Lermann), the son of Poseidon, continues his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground, Camp Half-Blood. Jackson is reprising his role as Grover Underwood (the satyr), half-goat, half-man.

The Detroit native was seen opposite Martin Lawrence in ‘Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son’ and was set to star with Eddie Murphy in the TV series to the hit film, ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ but the series was not picked by CBS.

In speaking with Blackfilm.com, Jackson talks about ‘Sea of Monsters’ and learning from Eddie Murphy.

What’s different with your character in ‘Sea of Monsters’?

BTJ: This time, I’m helping Percy find the Golden Fleece. My character also has to come back and help him save the ailing Thalia tree that protects Camp-Half Blood.

How was it reuniting with Logan and the rest of the cast?

BTJ: It’s like college. We all have a familiarity with each other so it’s fun.

Is there any particular scene that you were fond of?

BTJ: We had a lot of fun off-set while we were shooting in Vancouver. They came to see my stand-up comedy shows and we would hang afterwards.

What’s a good reason to see Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters?

BTJ: This one is darker, but cooler. I like this better because we’re older and the film has an older feel to it.

Were you disappointed that ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ wasn’t picked up for a TV series?

BTJ: No, it’s not disappointing at all. The pilot was a great project. Just because it wasn’t picked up doesn’t mean the pilot wasn’t good. The project was so amazing that they are going to make a movie out from it. I think it belongs on the big screen anyway. You can’t make an ‘R’ rated franchise into a ‘PG’ TV series.

What was it like working with Eddie Murphy?

BTJ: It was the best experience ever. You learn so much from a comedic genius. Every comedian that has worked with him has been put on. It’s been a blessing. My stand-up is better and I’ve been a better talent ever since I worked him.

With Kevin Hart bringing back the stand-up concert film back to the big screen, any chance we’ll see any of yours in theaters?

BTJ: Yeah, but I will wait my turn. Kevin is older than I am and I have a lot of younger material. Some of the materials you hear now works with an older audience, but I will get there.

When does your next film, ‘Get a Job’, come out?

BTJ: I don’t know, but that’s a good movie. I’m working on my stand-up and producing a movie that I will star in. I also wrote. I’m just trying to get the money to finance it, so hopefully I can get it together.
