According to The Hollywood Reporter, British actress Clare-Hope Ashitey has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming crime drama ‘Seven Seconds.’

She joins a cast that includes two-time Emmy winner Regina King, David Lyons, Michael Mosley, Russell Hornsby, Patrick Murney, Zackary Momoh, Raul Castillo and Beau Knapp.

In the series by Killing creator Veena Sud and based on the 2013 Russian action movie The Major (Майор), tensions run high between African-American citizens and Caucasian police officers in Jersey City, where a teenage African-American boy is critically injured by a cop.

King and Russell will play Latrice and Isaiah Butler, devout churchgoers and proud parents. After the family moves out of the projects and become first-time homeowners, they are shaken to their core when they learns that their 15-year-old son, Brenton, has been involved in an incident. Suddenly aware that there’s more to Brenton than they were aware of, Latrice is rocked by the power of her anger at her son’s predicament, an anger that will change her life, her relationship with her husband and more. Momoh will portray Seth Butler, Isaiah’s brother who comes home from a tour in Afghanistan just in time to support the family. Castillo is Felix Osorio, a cop working on the Narcotics squad in Jersey City. Lyons will play Mike Diangelo, an Alpha male lifer on the Jersey City police force who is the de facto leader of his small Narcotics squad. Knapp will play Peter Jablonski, a cop new to the team who is eager to please his squad leader/father figure Diangelo.

Ashitey will play K.J. Harper, an assistant prosecutor in New Jersey caught up in the tragic case.

Mosley will play Joe “Fish” Rinaldi, a seasoned New Jersey detective assigned to work with prosecutor KJ Harper (Ashitey). Murney will portray Gary Wilcox, a cop working with Diangelo (David Lyons), Osorio (Raul Castillo) and newcomer Peter Jablonski (Beau Knapp) on the Narcotics squad in Jersey City.

Sud will serve as showrunner on Seven Seconds, which will kick off with a 10-episode first season. She will exec produce with Lawrence Bender, Kevin Brown, Alex Reznik and Gavin O’Connor, the latter of whom will also direct.

Best known for starring opposite Clive Owen in Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men, Ashley’s other credits also include starring in the British police procedural Suspects, BBC One’s Doctor Foster and has a role in Gina Prince-Bythewood and Fox’s upcoming drama Shots Fired.
