Deadline is reporting that Cleo Anthony, who was featured in ‘Divergent,’ has been cast to play Jamie Overstreet, one of the male leads in Spike Lee’s Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It. In Lee’s 1986 movie, the role was played by Tommy Redmond Hicks.
Already cast in the series is Dewanda Wise, who will play Nola Darling, and Hamilton’s Anthony Ramos Mars Blackmon, one of the other male leads.
The series centers on Nola (Wise), a Brooklyn-based artist in her late 20s struggling to define herself and divide her time amongst her friends, her job and her three lovers: the cultured model Greer Childs (Anthony); the protective investment banker Jamie Overstreet; and Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos), who still wears Jordans but now is a social-media phenomenon. Wise’s Nola Darling is a sexually liberated, free spirited painter/mixed media artist.
Lee will direct all 10 episodes of the series, which he created and executive produces with his producer wife Tonya Lewis Lee. Netflix is the studio.
Anthony was also seen Trophy Wife, The Prey and recurred on Extant and Transparent. He starred in Lifetime movie Seasons Of Love opposite Taraji P. Henson and LeToya Luckett. He’s repped by UTA, Luber Roklin and attorney Neil Meyer.
