Collins Pennie Talks ‘In Time’by Wilson Morales

August 28, 2011

In the October issue of Juicy Magazine, actor Collins Pennie, who was last seen in ‘Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming’ and on TNT’s ‘Hawthorne’ with Jada Pinkett Smith, recently spoke about his latest film ‘In Time,’ which stars Justin Timberlake.

Directed by Andrew Niccol, ‘In Time’ presents a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich “earn” decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.

Pennie, a Brooklyn, NY native, recently played the lead male role in Beyonce‘s ‘Run The World (Girls)’ video.

Tell me about your role as a time keeper in the new sci-fi flick, ‘In Time,’ starring Justin Timberlake.

Collins Pennie: Time is the new form of currency, and by the 25, people stop aging and work to buy more time. I play a timekeeper who’s a law enforcement officer. Basically, I’m keeper track of time. In this world, time is really of the essence.

You’ve been in films like ‘Fame’ and ‘Prom Night,’ with Time, it sounds like you’re getting your grown-man on. What’s your favorite genre?

Collins Pennie: I enjoy films where the actor has to transform into another character and tell someone else a story…and actions movies. Doing ‘In Time’ is my first sort of sci-fi action film and I’m tackling something a little more grown-up than my past films. I’ve been working out, trying to get my fitness right, so an action role is something I want to get into.

20th Century Fox will release ‘In Time’ on October 28, 2011.
