Deadline is reporting Common and James Badge Dale will be joining Tiffany Haddish, Melissa McCarthy, and Elizabeth Moss in the upcoming New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment crime drama movie The Kitchen.
Jeremy Bobb and Myk Watford are also part of the cast. Domhnall Gleeson, Margo Martindale, Bill Camp and Brian d’Arcy James were previously announced as part of the cast.
Michael De Luca is producing the pic, which will begin production next month in New York City. A theatrical release date is slated for September 20, 2019, via Warner Bros.
The film is based on a 2014 comic series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle published in DC’s Vertigo line of comics. The screenplay is written by Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton, World Trade Center) who will also be making her debut in the director’s seat for the movie.
The Kitchen tells the story of the women (McCarthy, Haddish and Moss) who take over the Irish mafia in Hell’s Kitchen, New York in the ’70s after their husbands are arrested in an FBI operation. Under the control of these mob wives, organized crime in the Kitchen gets more dangerous.
Common is in talks for the role of FBI agent Gary Silvers. Dale will play Kevin O’Carroll, a mob boss married to Ruby (Haddish). Bobb is Rob Walsh, a violent mobster married to Claire (Moss), and Watford will portray Little Jackie, who initially assumes control of one of the mob crews after his boss is sent to prison.
Common will be seen next in Smallfoot for WB and The Hate U Give for Fox 2000. Dale, last seen in Sony’s Only the Brave, has the Netflix thriller Hold the Dark on his upcoming film slate.
