D23 Expo 2019: Janelle Monáe creating new music for ‘Lady and the Tramp’

The teaser of Lady and the Tramp was released during Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim at the Disney + presentation.

Lady and the Tramp is a romantic cinematic adventure that is going to have you fallen in love all over again with this pair of adorable Canines—played on screen by dog adoptees Rose and Monte.

The film stars Tessa Thompson as Lady, Justin Theroux as the Tramp, Thomas Mann as Jim Dear, Kiersey Clemons as Jim’s wife Darling, Ashley Jensen as Jackie the Scottish Terrier, Benedict Wong voicing Bull, an English bulldog, Sam Elliott as the voice of Trusty the Bloodhound, Janelle Monáe as the voice of Peg the Pekingese, Yvette Nicole Brown as Aunt Sarah, Adrian Martinez as Elliot and Arturo Castro as Marco.

The Disney classic from 1955 follows a domesticated cocker spaniel named Lady who which was originally released in 1955, follows an American cocker spaniel named Lady who meets a stray dog names Tramp after she is thrown on the street by her family. The two quickly become close as they adventure around the city and steal each other’s hearts.

The original includes the iconic song like He’s a Tramp which Janelle Monáe is putting her own spin on in this live action remake. Monáe is also developing her own original music to add to the soundtrack in addition to helping rework the Siamese Cat song.  The tune needs to be replaced due to the problematic tone of the song and nature of the cats portrayal. The details of the original songs aren’t available right now, but with the dirty computer herself in charge, expect the music to be on brand and funky.

The reboot is directed by Charlie Bean (“The Lego Ninjago Movie”) from a script by Andrew Bujalski and is set to debut on Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ on November 12, 2019.
