Dascha Polanco To Star In Play ‘I Survived’ In Miami On May 17

Dascha Polanco, best known for her role as Dayanara “Daya” Diaz on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, will be starring in the play ‘I Survived’ – which will hold its Premium Night Showing and Reception at the University of Jerry Herman Ring Theater on May 17. 2019. The red carpet reception will begin at 6PM followed by an intimate panel conversation with the cast and guest speakers after the presentation.

‘I Survived’ is a play based on the real-life struggles of Bianca Ramirez, as illustrated in her autobiography, B Beyond Words: The Memoir of Bianca Ramirez. Confronted with violence, poverty, illness, and social injustice, Bianca shares her story of personal growth and survival with the hope that others may learn from her ordeals.

The Jerry Herman Ring Theater University of Miami, 1312 Miller Drive Coral Gables, FL 33146. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.biancaramirez.co

The reception will include hors d’oeuvres and refreshments for guests, as they meet the ‘I Survived’ cast and Playwright Bianca Ramirez. Vip guests can obtain a copy of the book, B Beyond Words: The Memoir of Bianca Ramirez, along with a T-shirt.

Bianca wrote her story after she was brutally assaulted while training for a marathon along the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s river walk. The play incorporates music, poetry, and dance, to inspire audiences with hope, love and courage.

“I was blown away… She has an amazing subject matter. But I knew—with her ambition—it was going to be amazing,” says Tiffany Ortiz, wife of David Ortiz, professional baseball player for the Boston Red Sox.

“[I thought it was great] You know, for Bianca to tell her story and get it out there to let people know what goes on and that even though anything bad happens to you, you still can survive it; You can become a survivor and show the world that you don’t have to be a victim,” says Ray Allen, professional basketball player for the Miami Heat.

“Bianca Ramirez is one of the strongest, most gifted, intelligent, courageous, women I’ve ever had the honor of knowing, and there’s nothing too great or too small that she can’t overcome. The attack, losing parents, being a cancer survivor; nothing has stopped her,” says Shannon Allen, wife of Ray Allen, CEO and creator of Grown.

The play proved to be a success in 2012, when it premiered at the A.R.T. (American Repertory Theater) in Cambridge, MA and in 2013 at the Bill Cosford Theater at the University of Miami.

“The goal of ‘I Survived’ & B Beyond Words is to inspire others to push beyond their past, beyond their fears, beyond their obstacles, and beyond the labels anyone has attempted to use against them. The primary message is: No words can define you, because you are BEYOND WORDS,” says Playwright and Author Bianca Ramirez
