After The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit initially tweeted that Attack the Block’s John Boyega was in the running to play Miles Dyson’s son in ‘Terminator: Genesis,’ it seems that The Hunger Games’ Dayo Okeniyo has officially landed the role, reports Variety.
Joe Morton played Dyson in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. According to Wikipedia, “Doctor Miles Bennett Dyson was the original inventor of the neural-net processor which would lead to the development of Skynet, a computer A.I. intended to control electronically linked weapons and defend the United States, but which would later seize control of the world and launch a global war of extermination against humanity. He was the man most directly responsible for Judgment Day, although his work was clearly not intended to bring about that, and Dyson was visibly distraught and disgusted to learn of the Rise of the Machines.
Miles was married to Tarissa Dyson, with whom he had two children, Danny and Blythe.”
Alan Taylor is directing the first of a stand alone trilogy with Jason Clarke as John Connor, Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese. J.K. Simmons is also in the film as, according to THR, “a weary and alcoholic detective who has followed a bizarre case involving Sarah Connor and robots for more than three decades.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger will also return in his iconic role.
Since playing Thresh in The Hunger Games, Okeniyi has gone to play supporting roles in The Spectacular Now, ‘Runner, Runner,’ and most recently ‘Endless Love.’
Meanwhile, speculation is high that Boyega may land a lead role in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.
Skydance will finance Terminator: Genesis along with the studio with David Ellison producing for Skydance. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier co-wrote the script. Paramount will distribute the film.
