Vega Baby Releasing has announced today that the film DIVAS (aka The Killing of Wendy) will be available on DVD and VOD starting April 28th, 2015. The comedy stars Vanessa Bell Calloway, Rachel True, Michael Boatman, Bianca Lawson, Drew Sidora, Leila Arcieri, Natalie Reid, Caroline Chikezie, Angell Conwell, and Melissa De Sousa. Directed by David Hickson, the film was written by Jason Conway and produced by Robi Reed, Ernest Gumbo and Edward Chitate.
A dark comedy, the film centers on the investigation into the murder of Wendy Johnson (Vanessa Bell Calloway), an aging and supposedly “over-the-hill” actress who has been blackmailing 9 other Hollywood types (Agent, Writer, Producer, Director and 5 actresses). Detective Blake (Michael Boatman of Spin City) is called in to interrogate the women, but his questioning is severely compromised as he is not only a detective, but also an aspiring screenwriter, actor and rapper and sees the interrogation as his way into “Hollywood.”.
The film was originally acquired late last year in a deal brokered by Vega Baby Releasing’s CEO and Co-President Sheldon Brigman and by producer Chitate on behalf of the filmmakers.
