After 35 Years, Eddie Murphy Set To Host Saturday Night Live On Dec. 21

Saturday Night Live has announced the first set of hosts for its upcoming 45th season, including the news that Eddie Murphy will have hosting duties on December 21 with musical guest TBA. This will be his first time as host since 1984. It also marks his first return to SNL since a somewhat awkward appearance for a tribute at the SNL 40th Anniversary special in 2015.

Murphy was a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1980 to 1984. He’s currently shooting the sequel to Coming To America with most of the original cast returning. His next film is the Netfilx comedy, Dolemmite Is My Name, which will have its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.

Saturday Night Live is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.
