Emayatzy Corinealdi 2According to Deadline, Emayatzy Corinealdi is in talks to replace Zoe Saldana as the female lead in Don Cheadle‘s film on Miles Davis, in which he will direct.

With Saldana’s set to do sequels to ‘Avatar’ and ‘Star Trek,’ Corinealdi would assume the role of Frances Taylor, Miles Davis’ first wife.  The marriage lasted 10 years.

Written by Steve Baigelman and Cheadle, ‘Miles Ahead’ tracks a few dangerous days in Davis’ life as he emerged from a silent period to conspire with Rolling Stone writer Dave Brill (played by Ewan McGregor) to steal back his music.

Frances Taylor and Miles DavisMost recently, Cheadle is using the  crowdfunder Indiegogo to raise $325K to fund the indie production. It has reached nearly half of its goal with a little more than two weeks left to go.

Corinealdi was the breakout star of Ava DuVernay‘s 2012 film, ‘Middle of Nowhere,’ which netted her the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Performance, as well as Spirit Award and Image Award nominations. She later appeared in DuVernay’s short, ‘The Door’ with Gabrielle Union. She will next be seen in Lionsgate drama ‘Addicted’, directed by Bille Woodruff and starring Sharon Leal and Boris Kodjoe. Upcoming roles include Amazon’s TV pilot ‘Hand Of God,’ directed by Marc Forster and Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation, which she is currently shooting.  On July 2, Corinealdi will be featured in BET Networks’ Original Movie, ‘Gun Hill,’ directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood and starring Larenz Tate.
