EssenceFest 2018: Dinner With My Black is Beautiful #BlackGirlsDoPosted by Wilson Morales
July 8, 2018
During my trip at EssenceFest 2018, Blackfilm.com were among the journalists who were treated to a fabulous My Black is Beautiful #BlackGirlsDo dinner held at the ACE Hotel and hosted by Lisa Nichols, 6-time best-selling author and world-renowned speaker.
According to the website, My Black is Beautiful celebrates the diverse collective beauty of black women and encourages black women to define and promote our own beauty standard — one that is an authentic reflection of our indomitable spirit.
Recognizing that beauty and self-confidence are intrinsically linked, My Black is Beautiful is designed to ignite and support a sustained national conversation by, for and about black women — the way we are reflected in popular culture and how we serve as the catalyst for a movement that effects positive change.
As a part of P&G’s long-standing commitment to touch and improve the lives of African-American women, My Black is Beautiful began as an effort to target and uplift these women and has now transformed into a robust movement that gives black women the tools to help impact change.
As Nichols spoke about sisterhood and empowering one another and overcoming obstacles, the audience was surprised when Queen Latifah stopped to offer her own words of encouragement and inspiration. Latifah is performing on the main stage at the Superdome during the festival.
Also in attendance was Naturi Naughton, who was the MBIB celebrity ambassador as well as Lil Rel, Loni Love, and Charreah Jackson. Not only was everyone delighted by the food we got to eat but the music provided by Grammy-nominated singer Gallant was amazing.
