According to Deadline.com, “with Saturday’s grosses factored in, Universal’s The Fate Of The Furious has crossed $1B at the worldwide box office,” making F. Gary Gray the first Black director to have a billion dollar grossing film.

With a gross of $867.6M international and $192.7M domestic, the film has taken in $1.06B through today.

The site also states that this is the 5th movie in Universal’s 105-year history to reach the $1B mark, joining Jurassic World ($1.67B), Furious 7 ($1.52B), Illumination’s Minions ($1.16B) and Jurassic Park ($1.04B).

For Gary Gray, he has already broken several records with this film. A month ago when the film opened up with $100.2M domestically, it was the highest-grossing opening for an African American director, surpassing his own record ($60M) that he set with 2015’s Straight Outta Compton. With ‘Fate’s $532M worldwide and record debut, Gray became the 1st African American director ever to have a film open No. 1 in this many countries. With that worldwide gross, it’s also highest grossing film for African American director, surpassing Tim Story’s 2005 Fantastic Four, which took in $330M worldwide.
