In just three episodes that have aired so far, we have seen the likes of Academy Award Cuba Gooding Jr., Grammy Award winner Gladys Knight, Supermodel Naomi Campbell, and Tasha Smith appear in the hottest new series on television, ‘Empire.
Lee Daniels’ creation is not only tearing up the rating charts, rising in each episodes, but he’s attracting a lot of good talent to appear in small cameos or in guest roles with the possibility of it turning into a recurring role.
Derek Luke is the latest Hollywood actor that will be making an appearance on the Fox series, along with Grammy Award and Golden Globe Award nominee Courtney Love (“The People vs. Larry Flynt”), and Judd Nelson (“The Breakfast Club). Luke will be guest-starring as Malcolm Devoe, head of Empire security, in an upcoming episode.
Luke is no stranger to the TV world. He last had a recurring role on FX’s The Americans. Prior to that, he played opposite Jada Pinkett Smith in TNT’s Hawthorne and had a leading role in NBC’s Trauma. On the big screen, he was last seen in Baggage Claim with Paula Patton and Jill Scott.
Featuring music by prolific producer Timbaland, the series stars Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard (“Crash,” “Hustle & Flow”) and Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson (“No Good Deed,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”). Among the series’ other featured cast members are Malik Yoba, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers, and Kaitlin Doubleday, as well as newcomers Bryshere Gray and Grace Gealey.
Just recently, Daniels had a conversation with Denzel Washington in the hopes of luring the two-time Oscar winner to make an appearance on the show. “Trying to talk this one into doing a guest star on #empire #nextweekdinneronme,” Daniel tweeted. “Denzel hasn’t done television in 30 years. But he saw the pilot and said, ‘I’ve got to be a part of this.’”
In the meantime, here’s a sneak from Episode 4, “False Imposition,” which airs tonight.
