First Look At Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson In Alex Garland’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Annihilation’Posted by Wilson Morales

EW has posted the first look at Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson in writer-director Alex Garland (Ex Machina)’s sci-fi thriller ‘Annihilation.’
Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s 2014 best-selling sci-fi novel, the first book in the Southern Reach trilogy, the film also stars Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tuva Novotny, Gina Rodriguez, David Gyasi, and Sonoya Mizuno.
Annihilation is about a group of scientists (a biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, and a surveyor) who head into an environmental disaster zone to investigate its cause, and to find the missing husband of one of their members.
Natalie Portman plays a scientist named Lena, who is part of an expedition tasked with exploring an area which has been taken over by a mysterious force. Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tuva Novotny, and Gina Rodriguez costar as her fellow team members, while Oscar Isaac plays Portman’s husband.
Paramount Pictures and producer Scott Rudin (also a producer on Ex Machina) acquired the movie rights to the entire 2014 trilogy last year. “Annihilation” published in March, was followed by “Authority” in May and “Acceptance” in September.
Paramount Pictures and Skydance will release “Annihilation” in theaters on February 23rd.
