In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Universal Pictures has released the first pic from “Get On Up,” a biopic about the Godfather of Soul, James Brown.
Featured in the pic are 42’s Chadwick Boseman as James Brown and Craig Robinson Robinson as Maceo Parker, a funk and soul saxophonist who played with Brown in the 1960s.
The Help’s Tate Taylor is directing the film with Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Jill Scott, Dan Aykroyd, Tika Sumpter, Keith Robinson, Lennie James, and Julius Tennon.
Currently filming in Mississippi, the film will give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Brown died in 2006.
Get On Up is scheduled for release on August 1.
