Fox TV is looking to do a US remake of the popular BBC detective drama “Luther” with series creator Neil Cross, who has already written a pilot for the network, Chernin Entertainment and BBC Worldwide Prods.
Idris Elba, who starred in the original series for three seasons, will come on board as an executive producer but with his film career continuing to rise, he will not appear in the remake. Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner will also exec produce.
In this psychological crime drama, Idris Elba starred as the title character, Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, who works in London. The series ran from 2010-2014 and a total of 14 episodes.
Although Elba has received two Golden Globes nominations for his performance, Cross has stated that there will not be a fourth season.
Fox is currently airing “Gracepoint,” a remake of murder mystery “Broadchurch.”
