The 27th annual IFP Gotham Awards were handed out tonight in New York, and Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name won the coveted Best Feature while Jordan Peele’s Get Out took home three trophies for Breakthrough Director and Screenplay and the Audience Award.

“When I started to write this film I set out to make a movie that would be my favorite movie that I had never seen,” Peele said. “I didn’t know it would actually ever get made.”

He added: “It’s so important that we support these voices from the outside, these perspectives we haven’t seen, we haven’t heard. They will resonate. We need these stories.”

Other winners of the evening included Timothée Chalamet won Breakthrough Actor for his role in Call Me by Your Name. Saoirse Ronan won Best Actress for her role in Lady Bird, while James Franco won Best Actor for his role in The Disaster Artist.

The Audience Award is comprised of the 14 docs and features were composed of the 14 films nominated for Best Feature, Best Documentary, and the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award. Winners were selected by online voting of IFP. In addition this year, the winner of the Breakthrough Series – Short Form (all available on the web) were selected by online IFP member voting.

The ceremony was hosted by John Cameron Mitchell.

The 2017 Best Actor/Best Actress nominating committee also voted to award a special Gotham Jury Award for ensemble performance to Mudbound, The award went to actors Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell, Mary J. Blige, Rob Morgan and Jonathan Banks.
