Hamilton, Shuffle Along, And Eclipsed Among 2016 Tony Award NominationsPosted by Wilson Morales

Nominations for the 2016 Tony Awards were announced today and as expected Hamilton dominated the field with a record 16 nominations.
As expected, creator-star Lin-Manuel Miranda and co-star Leslie Odom Jr. took spots in the best actor in a musical category, while Phillipa Soo nabbed a lead actress nod and Renee Elise Goldsberry took a featured actress slot. In the featured musical actor race, three of the five spots are filled with “Hamilton” actors: Daveed Diggs, Jonathan Groff and Christopher Jackson.
“The Book of Mormon” alums Nikki M. James and Andrew Rannells announced the nominees for the Tony Awards on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET live from the Diamond Horseshoe at the Paramount Hotel in New York City.
Also doing well was “Shuffle Along,” the George C. Wolfe musical that opened last week, with 10 nominations. Surprisingly, its leading lady Audra Mcdonald failed to land a nomination.
Danai Gurira’s Eclipsed landed six nominations, including one for Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o for Best Actress. Co-stars Pascale Armand and Saycon Sengbloh will compete against each other for Best Actress in a Featured Role.
All in all, history was made as 12 Blacks received nominations in the acting categories, surpassing the previous high of 9 from 2013.
Emceed by Tony Award winner and “The Late Late Show” host James Corden, the Tonys will air June 12 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS
