Idris Elba 3

Variety is reporting that Idris Elba is in talks to play the villain in Star Trek 3, which J.J. Abrams will produce along with his producing partner Bryan Burke and Skydance’s David Ellison.

Justin Lin is directing the pic with Pegg and Doug Jung writing the script. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin are set to reprise their roles.

The site, going off rumors, suggests that Klingons would be the main villains in this movie, as they have not had a full presence in previous installments, but sources would not confirm if that was the case. Paramount and Skydance had no comment.

Elba, who’s currently on screen in “The Gunman,” recently play the villain opposite Taraji P. Henson in “No Good Deed.” He will next be seen in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” followed by Cary Fukunaga’s “Beasts of No Nation,” which Netflix recently acquired for distribution.

He recently finished “Bastille Day” opposite “Cinderella” star Richard Madden and has Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and the indie “A Hundred Streets” set to bow in the near future. It was also announced yesterday that he will replace Jamie Foxx in Harmony Kormine’s “The Trap.”
