According to various sources, Jada Pinkett Smith will star and exec produce a new series called “Murder Town” for ABC with a with a put pilot commitment.
By definition, “A put pilot is a pilot that the network has agreed to air either as a special or series. If the network does not air the pilot episode, the network will owe substantial monetary penalties to the studio. Generally, this guarantees that the pilot will be picked up by the network.”
Written by Barry Schindel (Intelligence, Castle) based on an original script by Rob Fresco, Murder Town centers on a beautiful and complicated prosecutor (Pinkett Smith) who makes history as Wilmington, Delaware’s, first African American District Attorney. She finds herself confronted by old loyalties and loves, a shocking revelation about her murdered husband and a polarizing, racially-charged case that threatens to burn her and her city to the ground.
Produced by A+E Studios, Schabclogoindel and Pinkett Smith will serve as executive produce alongside Miguel Melendez for Overbrook Entertainment.
From 2009-2011, Pinkett Smith starred and exec produced the TNT medical series Hawthorne. Most recently, she had a regular in season 1 of Fox’s Gotham and was last seen on the big screen in Magic Mike XXL.
