‘Funny My Way’ focuses on breaking boundaries in comedy and honors the Black comedy icons that shattered barriers by boldly defining themselves beyond the limitations of their time. Using interviews and archival clips from TV shows, comedy albums, and talk shows, J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), dives into the life and career of a different comedy icon each episode – reframing their accomplishments in terms of their continued relevance, their essential influence, and the fight for equal rights in the present day.
Exclusively available from Audible, ‘Funny My Way’ pays homage to six iconic Black Comedians who
broke barriers in the entertainment industry, talking about the everyday struggles in the Black
community. It goes beyond their punch lines to discuss their accomplishments, their challenges and
their continued influence.
Produced by Team Coco and AYR Media, this docu-series celebrates the lives and work of comedy greats, Dick Gregory, Redd Foxx, Moms Mabley, Flip Wilson, Rudy Ray Moore, and Paul Mooney, whose outsized influence is still seen in today’s most iconic Black comics.
