Award-winning indie director, Jerry LaMothe (Amour Infinity, Blackout, The Tombs) has recently announced he’s currently in development to shoot the most anticipated project of his career, The Promise Keeper.
The Promise Keeper is an intense drama about two childhood best friends from Flatbush, Brooklyn, that spans over two decades, which showcases the vastly different directions they each take in life. When one gets deported back to Haiti, the other takes his first ever visit to the island, in search of answers, only months after the tragic earthquake that devastates the country.
Currently, production is slated to begin in late July 2012. The film will be shot on location in Brooklyn and Haiti.
“There are several projects in development about Haiti, but few with the intention of actually shooting there,” LaMothe (who is Haitian-American) recently stated. I’ve been in talks with people and aligning myself with some key individuals from the Haitian community. They’ve been extremely supportive and enthusiastic about the overall plan with the film. I think it will be a great experience for everyone.”
Cast announcements will be announced in the coming weeks.
LaMothe’s recent credits include “The Tombs,” a short film about a Brooklyn man’s three-day ordeal through New York’s central booking jail system, infamously known as The Tombs. Currently having a successful film festival run, the film has been nominated for a Black Reel award for best independent short film.
In 2007, LaMothe wrote/directed and produced Blackout, which starred Jeffrey Wright, Zoe Saldana, Saul Rubinek, Michael B. Jordan and Melvin Van Peebles. The film premiered at the Tribeca film festival to rave reviews.
LaMothe’s The Tombs will be screening at this month’s Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles on Sun Feb 12th at 8:30pm, Wed Feb 15th at 1:00pm and Mon Feb 20th at 10:00pm and Act Now/New Voices in Black Cinema in Brooklyn at BAM cinetek, Sun Feb 19th at 4:30pm.
