Deadline is reporting that John Boyega has been cast to star opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in the upcoming feature adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel “The Circle.”

Shooting will start in September in California. James Ponsoldt (“The Spectacular Now”) is directing from his own script.

Boyega will play Ty, the iconized boy-wonder visionary of the Circle, an Internet monopoly which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system. The result is one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. He and an employee (Watson) develop a relationship as the perils of life in a digital age inevitably arise.

Image Nation Abu Dhabi is fully financing. IM Global is handling international sales on the film and U.S. rights are being jointly repped by UTA Independent Film Group and CAA.

Boyega will next be seen as Finn in the JJ Abrams-directed film Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. The British actor is known for his role as Moses  in Joe Cornish’s Attack The Block and appeared in the Sundance film,“Imperial Dreams,” where it won the Audience Award: Best of NEXT. He also appeared in “Half of a Yellow Sun” opposite Thandie Newton and Chiwetel Ejiofor. He was also seen in last year’s Fox series “24: Live Another Day” in a recurring role.
