Deadline is reporting that Kyleigh Curran has been cast as Abra Stone in Warner Bros. adaptation of Doctor Sleep, the sequel to Stephen King’s The Shining.
Curran, who had previously appeared as a young Nala on the Broadway production of Disney’s The Lion King, joins a cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Carl Lumbly, Alex Essoe, and Zarn McClarnon.
Stone a young girl who possesses the same mental abilities as Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) and finds herself targeted by a murderous cult looking to feed off her life-force. Ferguson plays Rose The Hat, the head of a cult that feeds on the “steam” created by young people who have a touch of the “shining” and her main target is Stone.
First published in 2013, Doctor Sleep serves as a sequel to King’s popular novel The Shining as an adult Danny (in his 40s) finds himself descending into the same mental illness and problems with addiction that destroyed his father in the original 1977 novel.
Doctor Sleep is directed and co-written by Mike Flanagan and is scheduled to be released on January 24, 2020.
