Larenz TateLarenz Tate is set to produce and star in the period drama ‘Sylvie’s Love.’

Set in NYC’s late-’50s/early-’60s jazz scene, Tate will play a prodigious Harlem saxophonist in the story of a young woman who struggles to balance her loyalty to her fiancé fighting in Korea against her love for the sax man.

Tate, along with his brothers LaRon and Lahmard Tate, and their TateMen Entertainment will produce the film from writer-director Eugene J. Ashe.

Tate, who was last seen in a recurring role on Showtime’s House Of Lies in 2013, will star with Craig Robinson in NBC’s comedy pilot Mr. Robinson, which was got a series order last month. His big-screen credits include Ray, Crash, Love Jones, Dead Presidents and Menace II Society. He also did the Gun Hill film for BET, which was directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood.

Ashe directed the indie film Homecoming, whose cast included Duane Allen-Robinson, Nina Ashe, Sheldon Shaw, Tiffany-Denise, and Ruby Miles.
