Liam Neeson To Play Viola Davis’ Husband In Steve McQueen Heist Thriller ‘Widows’Posted by Wilson Morales

Variety is reporting that Liam Neeson has been cast to play the husband of Academy Award and Emmy winner Viola Davis in Steve McQueen’s latest film, “Widows. “ He would join recent Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo (‘The Color Purple’), Moonlight’s Andre Holland, Elizabeth Debicki (AMC’s ‘The Night Manager’), Michelle Rodriguez, and Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”).
Produced by New Regency, the heist thriller will be written by “Gone Girl” screenwriter and novelist Gillian Flynn.
Based on the 2002 British miniseries Widows that was written by Prime Suspect‘s Lynda La Plante, the film is about four armed robbers who get killed in a botched heist attempt and their widows teaming up to finish the job.
Film 4 will co-finance the film with New Regency and it will license free TV rights in the UK. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman of See-Saw Films will produce the film with McQueen.
Neeson was last seen in opposite Andrew Garfield in Martin Scorsese’s drama “Silence” and the fantasy film “A Monster Calls.” He recently wrapped production on the spy thriller “Felt” and the actioner “The Commuter.”
