Variety is stating that MGM is for a 2017 released date for the sequel to “Creed.” “That’s my goal,” MGM CEO Gary Barber told Variety on Sunday night at the Golden Globes of his release plan, adding that the date hasn’t been set in stone yet.
At this point, the film has already crossed over $100M domestically and garnered stellar reviews, including a recent Golden Globe win for Sylvester Stallone for Best Supporting Actor for his iconic role as Rocky Balboa.
A lot of this hinges on whether director Ryan Coogler is going to do Marvel’s Black Panther as some have speculated by not confirmed. Even Stallone believes the window is getting narrow, assuming Coogler accepts the comic-book film. “I know Ryan is going to be gone for a couple years,” Stallone to the magazine. “There’s a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel.”
Considering he co-wrote the film, having Coogler come back to direct should be priority, especially since he and star Michael B. Jordan have great chemistry.
