The Hollywood Reporter is that actor Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight) has joined the cast of the upcoming Predator, latest installment in the sci-fi/action franchise set up at 20th Century Fox.

Directed by Shane Black from a script written by Fred Dekker, and based on a story that the pair wrote together, Rhodes joins Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn.

Titled The Predator, Rhodes will play an ex-marine and special forces soldier who is also friend to Boyd Holbrook’s character, while Munn will play a scientist.

Rhodes is best known for playing the adult  adult character Chiron in Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight.”  He recently signed on to Jerry Bruckheimer’s Afghanistan War drama, “Horse Soldiers,” which is based on a book by Doug Stanton and follows a U.S. Special Forces team and their captain after they are dispatched to a mountainous region of Afghanistan in the weeks immediately following 9/11, in order to fight to drive out the Taliban.

The original Predator starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987, followed Danny Glover in the sequel, 1990’s Predator 2. Sanaa Lathan starred in Fox’s Alien franchise for two additional sequels, 2004’s Alien vs. Predator, but not in that sequel, 2007’s AvP: Requiem. In 2010, Nimrod Antal directed a reboot titled Predators, which starred Adrien Brody.

The Predator will be released in theaters on February 9, 2018.
