Deadline is reporting that Netflix has won an intense bidding war for Mother, an action thriller spec written by Underground co-creator Misha Green.
A spec script, also known as a speculative screenplay, is a non-commissioned unsolicited screenplay. It is usually written by a screenwriter who hopes to have the script optioned and eventually purchased by a producer, production company, or studio.
The site states that “this script that has a female protagonist in a scenario reminiscent of The Professional and La Femme Nikita that has franchise potential.”
Producer Roy Lee (The LEGO Batman Movie) will produce the film and Green will also be a producer.
Green’s Underground was just cancelled by WGN America after two seasons and she’s already just set to write the pilot for Lovecraft Country, a one-hour drama for HBO that will produced by Get Out writer-director Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros Television.
