Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer to Fences, the big screen adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer and Tony winning 1983 play.

Directed by and starring Academy Award winner Denzel Washington, Paramount Pictures, in association with Bron Creative and MACRO, will release “FENCES” on December 16 as a limited theatrical opening in New York and Los Angeles, followed by a nationwide roll-out on December 25, Christmas Day.

Based on August Wilson’s screen adaptation of his Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Washington will star along Academy Award nominee and Emmy-winner Viola Davis.  Both actors are Tony Award-winners for their performances in the play’s 2010 Broadway revival.

FENCES tells the story of Troy Maxson, a one-time promising baseball player, now working as a Pittsburgh garbage collector.

It’s the story of a man torn between the glory of his past and the uncertainty of his future. Emboldened by pride and embittered by sacrifice, Troy is determined to make life better for future generations, even as he struggles to embrace the dreams of his own son.

With Denzel Washington starring as Troy Maxson and Viola Davis as Rose Maxson, the cast features Jovan Adepo as Cory, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Jim Bono, Russell Hornsby as Lyons, Mykelti Williamsonas Gabriel, and with Eden Duncan-Smith and Saniyya Sydney in the role of Raynell.

The film is produced by Washington, Academy Award®-winner Scott Rudin and Todd Black; and executive produced by Eli Bush; Bron Creative’s Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth and Andy Pollack and MACRO’s Charles D. King and Kim Roth, along with co-executive producer Poppy Hanks.
