After some offset pics were posted earlier this week of Zoe Saldana in the Nina Simone biopic, ‘Nina,’ here’s the latest but clearest pic to show up online.
Directed and written by Cynthia Mort, the biopic will tell the tale the story of the late jazz musician and classical pianist Nina Simone, including her rise to fame and relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson, played by David Oyelowo.
Also cast in the film are Mike Epps as Richard Pryor in a supporting role and Broadway actor Kevin Mambo as Gille, a French guitarist and a member of Simone’s band. . Pryor opened for the singer when they two were starting out in the early 1960s. Pryor had terrible stage fright and Simone, in her autobiography, recalled how she regularly rocked him into calmness.
Filming has begun in Los Angeles with Mark Burton, Barnaby Thompson, Stuart Parr and Ben Latham Jones producing. Ealing Studios is behind the movie and handling foreign sales.
