Nia Long and Larenz Tate, stars of New Line’s 1997 romantic drama Love Jones, reignite their on screen chemistry once again in Eugene Ashe’s new romantic drama Don’t Ever Wonder, for Netflix. And yes, it is inspired by singer Maxwell’s hit song by the same name from his 1996 debut platinum-selling R&B album, Urban Hang Suite.

The Project is currently shooting around New York and New Jersey and additional cast recently announced include Blair Underwood (Longlegs, L.A. Law), Laz Alonso (The Boys), Susan Kelechi Watson (This Is Us), actress/stage director and wife of Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington, Pauletta Washington (Reasonable Doubt), Dennis Haysbert (Flamin,’ Hot, Waiting To Exhale), Chante Adams (A Journal for Jordan), Algee Smith (Euphoria), Grasie Mercedes (Grand Crew), Navia Robinson (Raven’s Home) and Yolonda Ross (The Chi).
While the plot and script details for the project have been kept under tight wraps, we know the director of the project is Sylvie’s Love’s Eugene Ashe working from a script written with Kay Oyegun, who is best known for work on NBC’s This Is Us.
Don’t Ever Wonder is brought to the screen by James Lopez, Charles D. King, and Poppy Hanks of Macro Film Studios, with Maxwell, John D. Hammond, Long, and Tate serving as executive producers.
Long and Tate most recently worked together on Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael, from Antoine Fuqua set for release April 2026.
