Producing Partners Michiel Thomas & Michael Franklin Talk “That’s Wild” Documentary

Michiel Thomas and Michael Franklin; the team behind documentary “That’s Wild“, talk with blackfilm.com correspondent Rob Smith about the moving experience of introducing youth from Atlanta to nature for the first time.

That’s Wild – Synopsis

Growing up in Atlanta can be hard as highlighted by three real-life protagonists in That’s Wild. Clifford (16) tries to fill the void of his incarcerated father, Ahmani (13) struggles with the aftermath of a homeless childhood, and Nicholas (13) grapples with episodes of depression.

When the boys sign up for the after-school program, Wilderness Works, they quickly begin to unpack the negative pressures that surround them in their day-to-day lives. Under the mentorship of the dynamic duo Bill and Ebonie, these teenagers learn about the transformative and healing effects of time spent in the outdoors.

As Clifford, Ahmani and Nicholas set their sights on the strenuous terrains of the Maroon Bells Wilderness in Colorado, they quickly begin to realize the magnitude of their adventure. Led by Bill, this backpacking summer trip takes these teenage boys through rapid rivers, high-altitudes and 12,000 ft snowcapped peaks all while overcoming their own personal mountains.
