Lifetime TV has announced that Queen Latifah, Betsy Brandt, Jill Scott and Marin Ireland are all set to star in “Flint,” which is based on the ongoing Flint, Michigan water crisis that was headlined in TIME magazine’s February 2016 cover story by Josh Sanburn, titled “The Poisoning of an American City.”
Bruce Beresford will direct the film from an adapted screenplay by Barbara Stepansky, with Josh Sanburn serving as a consultant.
The film will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who have worked with Queen Latifah on numerous occasions including 2012 all-black-cast “Steel Magnolias” remake that aired on Lifetime, NBC’s 2015 production “The Wiz LIVE,” and the film musicals “Chicago” and “Hairspray.”
Latifah will also executive produce along with Shakim Compere via their Flavor Unit production company, as well as Zadan, Meron and Katie Couric.
Production begins next week in Toronto.
