Ruth E. Carter Named Costume Designer For Marvel’s Black PantherPosted by Wilson Morales

With a cast that in continuing to grow with production set to start in early 2017, Ruth E. Carter has been named costume designer for Marvel’s Black Panther.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the cast so far includes Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and its latest member Danai Gurira.
Boseman, who stars as T’Challa aka Black Panther and his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War. Jordan will be playing the film’s villain, Erik Killmonger, while Nyong’o and Gurira will play Nakia and Okoye, high ranking members of Black Panther’s bodyguards, The Dora Milaje.
Having done 12 of Spike Lee’s films including School Daze, Do The Right Thing, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, and most recently Chi-Raq,Carter has worked with almost every Black director in the business, including Robert Townsend’s The Five Heartbeats, John Singleton’s Baby Boy and Four Brothers, Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Love & Basketball, Lee Daniels’ Butler and Ava DuVernay’s Selma.
She recently received an Emmy nomination for her wardrobe work on the remake of Roots. Carter garnered two Academy Award nominations for Best Costume Design for her work on Lee’s Malcolm X (1992), and Amistad (1997) directed by Steven Spielberg.
Upcoming projects include Kidnap starring Halle Berry, Keeping Up with the Joneses with Gal Gadot, and Marshall, the Thurgood Marshall film starring Chadwick Boseman and directed by Reginald Hudlin.
Black Panther hits theaters on February 2, 2018.
