The 98th Academy Awards were announced this morning by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. Director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler’s horror drama Sinners has earned an incredible 16 Oscar nominations, a new Academy record. The total surpasses All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016), which each previously held the record with 14 nominations. Coogler marks a rare trifecta with nominations in three major categories for Sinners: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture as one of the film’s producers, underscoring his groundbreaking, creative leadership.

Actors of color nominated this year include Michael B. Jordan, who lands his first acting Oscar nomination (Best Actor, Sinners) and other first-timers Wunmi Mosaku (Best Supporting Actress, Sinners) and Teyana Taylor (Best Supporting Actress, One Battle After Another), who are joined by Delroy Lindo, finally earning his first Oscar nomination (Best Supporting Actor, Sinners) after decades of acclaimed, awards-recognized work across SAG, Emmy, and critics’ choice honors.
Other notable nominees include Ruth E. Carter for Best Costume Design and for Sinners and Raphael Saadiq for Best Original Song performed by Miles Caton in the film and on the soundtrack and co-written by Ludwig Göransson
The 98th Academy Awards (Oscars 2026) ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with comedian Conan O’Brien returning as host. It will be broadcast live on ABC, and streamed internationally (including on Hulu), with
