Oscar Nominations 2026: Ryan Coogler’s Sinners Nominated for a Record-breaking 16 Academy Awards

Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks host the announcement of the 98th Oscars® nominations, on Tuesday, January 22, 2026.

The 98th Academy Awards were announced this morning by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. Director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler’s horror drama Sinners has earned an incredible 16 Oscar nominations, a new Academy record. The total surpasses All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016), which each previously held the record with 14 nominations. Coogler marks a rare trifecta with nominations in three major categories for Sinners: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture as one of the film’s producers, underscoring his groundbreaking, creative leadership.
